By this point the coast road has left the busiest resort strip behind, and the final stretch into Živogošće feels noticeably quieter than the drive through Makarska or Tučepi earlier in the same journey. For travellers arriving on an early or late flight, the length of this transfer is exactly where flight tracking and a fixed price matter most: there's no rank taxi queue to negotiate at either end of a journey this long, just a driver already briefed on your route.

Živogošće isn't a single village but a loose chain of hamlets, Porat, Mala Duba, Blato and Vrulja among them, spread along the final stretch of the Makarska Riviera before the coast turns toward Zaostrog and the Pelješac direction. A working Franciscan monastery sits above Porat, its terraced grounds open to visitors and offering one of the better inland views on this whole part of the coast. The beaches here are generally quieter than anything further north on the riviera, partly a function of distance from Split and partly because Živogošće has never pushed hard for the large-hotel tourism that shaped Tučepi or Makarska: most accommodation is smaller, family-run, and spread thinly enough that even August rarely feels crowded. The gap between hamlets is often filled by nothing more than open scrub and the odd olive terrace, giving the whole area a settled, unhurried feel that visitors either love immediately or find a little too quiet. There's rarely a middle opinion. The monastery itself has stood above Porat for centuries and remains an active religious community rather than a museum piece, which shapes something of the area's low-key character: this has never been a place built primarily around tourism, and it shows in how modestly the hamlets have grown compared with the resorts further north along the same coast road. Visitors drawn specifically to this stretch of coast tend to be repeat guests rather than first-timers, often people who discovered Živogošće while exploring further afield and chose to return for exactly the quiet it offers.

Tučepi and Promajna sit north along the same road, both straightforward to visit or book as separate transfers during a longer stay in the area. The monastery above Porat is walkable from most Živogošće accommodation, and Makarska's wider choice of restaurants and ferry connections is within a reasonable drive for a day or evening out. Further south along the coast, the villages around Zaostrog mark the quieter transition toward the Pelješac peninsula, worth exploring by car for visitors with their own transport during a longer stay. The pebble beaches at Mala Duba and Blato are among the least crowded on the entire Makarska Riviera, a genuine draw for visitors prioritising peace and quiet over proximity to restaurants and nightlife, and the walking trail linking the hamlets makes for a pleasant, unhurried way to see more of the area on foot.
